4 Adventurous Things to Do in and around Miramar

Known as the gateway to the Everglades, Miramar has long been considered a bedroom community to nearby Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. Located in Broward County, just north of Miami, Miramar has blossomed into its own destination since its founding in the 1950s.

These days the community has grown into its own with top employers and leisure destinations. The city’s serene town center area offers retail, residential and public use buildings overlooking the water. Miramar is a nice escape for travelers looking for a more slowed down South Florida feel.

But don’t get it mistaken.

Miramar also offers adrenaline packed fun. Here are some of our top choices for adventurous things to do in and around Miramar:

Hard Rock Casino
1 Seminole Way
Hollywood, FL

Fancy yourself a high roller? Test your skills at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The full-service casino offers high limit gaming, slots and table games. More reserved players, can get their adrenaline running playing live Poker, Black Jack, Mini Baccarat and more. Built in the early 2000s, the Hard Rock has grown leaps and bounds through the years. It’s more of a gambling resort these days with a full service spa, top notch restaurants, and live shows. In the works right now: the installation of a 450-foot high guitar tower. Visit their website for more information.

Everglades Holiday Park
21940 Griffon Road
Ft. Lauderdale, FL

If you’re looking for fun and adventure on the Everglades, this is the right destination. Everglades Holiday Park is about 29 acres of wetlands, and located just 15 miles outside of Miramar’s city center. The park opened in the 1980s by a former tobacco farmer who had a penchant for airboats and wildlife. These days you can take in a gator show and cruise the everglades, while enjoying a plethora of other wildlife all in the same day at the park. It’s also home to the Gator Boys Alligator Rescue, a group focused on the conservation of the wetlands. The team catches nuisance alligators in communities and releases them at the park. Not to be missed: The Swamp Thing turbo fast airboat. Visit their website for more information.

K1 Speed
2950 Stirling Road
Hollywood, FL

Got the need for speed? K1 Speed offers fast-paced indoor go-kart racing. But it’s not your typical go-kart place. K1 offers lessons, teams and championship racing for cash. All karts at K1 are electric, which means they have more horsepower – up to 45 miles per hour to be exact – making them the fastest in the industry. While K1 has more than 40 locations nationwide, each location has a different set of tracks. The racing center is a destination for people in and around Miramar who enjoy speed and family fun. Visit their website for more information.

Billie Swamp Safari
30000 Gator Trail
Clewiston, FL

Frybread. Frog legs. Gator tail nuggets. Take your taste buds on an adventure at Billie Swamp Safari where you can try all of these traditional Native American eats. The 2,200-acre preserve is home to the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation and provides recreation and entertainment to visitors. The Safari offers airboat rides, swamp buggy rides, and guided tours to see wildlife like water buffalo, turtles, birds,  and of course alligators. You can camp overnight in the rustic camping village on site, which includes thatched roof dwellings (chickees) much like those the Seminoles lived in at one time. Visit their website for more information.
